After 17 years in their newly built home in Kent, UK, the Carters felt it was time to refresh their space—starting with what they considered the heart of their home: the kitchen. Eager for a change, they discovered Mo’s StoneX worktops, and from that moment on, we were there to guide them every step of the way.
Visiting our Slab Centre
Kelly and Mark knew that selecting the perfect material for their worktops was a decision they couldn’t take lightly. They envisioned a space that would look stunning and stand up to the wear and tear of daily life. They visited our High Wycombe slab centre to turn that vision into reality, determined to find a timeless and practical material.
Upon arriving at the showroom, they were welcomed by our design experts, who took the time to understand their unique needs and preferences. The Carters shared details of their kitchen’s current layout, the overall aesthetic they hoped to achieve, and their long-term renovation goals. They wanted a worktop that was more than just a design feature—they were searching for a surface that would blend seamlessly into their daily routine, enduring everything from family dinners to busy mornings, all while maintaining its elegance.
As they toured the showroom, examining each slab up close, Kelly and Mark were struck by the variety of options available. They discussed the pros and cons of various materials with our experts, weighing factors like durability, maintenance, and how each surface might complement their kitchen's future renovations. For them, it wasn’t just about finding something beautiful; they needed a material that could handle the demands of an active household without losing its charm over time.

After much consideration and careful evaluation, the Carters ultimately decided on our Alaska quartz. When they looked at the quartz, they knew it was the right choice. The pure, natural-looking surface offered the timeless appeal they sought while also being
incredibly durable—ideal for the hustle and bustle of everyday family life. Its crisp white tone and subtle marbling would add a fresh, bright feel to their kitchen, perfectly aligning with their vision for a modern, inviting space that could easily evolve with future updates.
The Alaska quartz wasn't just aesthetically pleasing; its low-maintenance qualities meant it would stay pristine with minimal effort, allowing Kelly and Mark to spend more time enjoying their home and less time worrying about upkeep. They loved that it was a long lasting, practical solution—exactly what they needed for what was destined to be their forever home.
With this decision, the Carters felt confident that they had chosen a worktop that would meet their family’s needs for years to come while also adding a touch of sophistication that would elevate their entire kitchen renovation. Alaska quartz wasn’t just the ideal choice; it was the perfect finishing touch to the dream kitchen they had always imagined.
“The process of choosing a new worktop for the kitchen was made really easy, if I’m honest with you. I think we went with what we thought we wanted, and we had an idea about what we thought we liked. Mo pointed us in a better direction, which he was so knowledgeable, isn’t he? And he just had a better idea of what worktops would work with what colour sinks and things like that.” - Kelly.
When the day finally arrived to install their new worktops, the Carters could hardly contain their excitement. After months of planning and anticipation, their kitchen was on the verge of a complete transformation. The old black laminate countertops, which had served them for years, would be replaced with sleek, polished white quartz. This change wouldn’t just
modernise the space—it would brighten the entire room, bringing a sense of openness and light. For Kelly and her family, this was more than just a home improvement project—it was a renewal of their living space.

Kelly explained how, when they first purchased the house 17 years ago, the developers had designed the kitchen, leaving them with standard, uninspired worktops. Though they had lived with them for years, she admitted that the dark laminate had never truly felt like their style. Yet, with the busyness of family life and with the worktops still functioning well, they hadn’t found a reason to change them, despite their mixed feelings.

However, as the years went by and the Carters began to think of this house as their forever home, their priorities shifted. They wanted a kitchen that reflected their taste, one that would not only look stunning but also stand the test of time. Kelly mentioned that durability and beauty were both key factors in their decision, which is why they ultimately chose Alaska quartz, as it matched their vision of a bright, welcoming kitchen that would be a gathering space for family and friends for years to come.

“I think we’ve learnt quite a few things, haven’t we? We’ve made a mistake measuring the sinks up, for example! And, I would definitely recommend getting advice from tradespeople about, you know, getting correct measurements, installing things like the gas hob, making sure it’s kept off and knowing what you need in terms of, you know, to be taken out the night before in preparation so when the worktops are being installed, you are prepared.” - Kelly.
After 17 years, the big day finally arrived—Carter’s kitchen was complete! We caught up with Kelly as she baked her famous pumpkin cake on the brand-new Alaska Quartz countertops to hear how she and Mark are enjoying their updated space.

The Carters chose sleek black cabinets, which they had hand-painted for a personal touch. They added under-cabinet lighting to brighten up the surfaces and opted for dark accents like an under-mount sink and a built-in soap dispenser. To complete the look, they included our complimentary matching chopping boards, tying everything together beautifully.
“It’s super easy to keep clean. It’s just durable and wipeable. It always looks smart, and there’s no staining, no scratching. It’s just the perfect workspace. And actually, I think it’s encouraged us to kind of live a bit more minimalistic and kind of keep all the surfaces a bit clearer. “ - Kelly Carter.
“I’d always wanted something very contemporary, quite chic, and that’s when we came across Mo’s StoneX as we looked for new worktops. He kind of pointed out that black accessories, such as sinks and taps, would complement the surface. He was really helpful” - Mark Carter.
Their kitchen is not only a haven but also aesthetically pleasing, cosy and modern. Mark and Kelly opted for dark cabinetry, which Mo initially advised on, which brings a bold, contemporary edge to the room. The sleek, matte finish provides a sophisticated look that contrasts well with the Alaska worktops. The backsplash adds an extra layer of elegance with its subtle veining that ties it all together. This combination of dark and light gives the kitchen a timeless quality.
The Carters are both coffee lovers, and they dedicated a corner in their kitchen to making the perfect brew. There is no need to worry about coffee spillage any longer, as our quartz worktops are easy to clean, leaving you with fewer worries about unwanted stains.

With the holiday season right around the corner, Mark and Kelly’s kitchen is ready just in time for all the baking fun! Their new Alaska worktops are the perfect addition, especially for holiday prep. These white marble-effect countertops look stunning and make cleanup super easy, which is a huge bonus during the busiest time of year.

We all know how baking can be messy—think flour everywhere, sticky dough, and spills galore. But with the Alaska worktops, Mark and Kelly don’t have to worry. The surface is durable and stain-resistant, so even after a big baking session, all it takes is a quick wipe to get them sparkling clean again.
The best part? Less time cleaning means more time enjoying the season. Whether they’re decorating cookies, cooking for family and friends, or just enjoying some quiet time in the kitchen, Mark and Kelly’s new worktops keep things simple and stress-free.
With their Alaska worktops, they get a beautiful, easy-to-maintain space that’s ready for all the holiday joy ahead.

We asked the Carters for one piece of advice they’d give to anyone starting or in the middle of a kitchen renovation, and their answer is worth noting.

The best piece of advice is to go to the warehouse and have a look because the samples are lovely, but they are quite small. When you go to the warehouse, there are huge slabs and many options on display. You get to feel them, you know, touch them, and kind of get a real look at what it would be like in a larger office area. I would definitely also speak to the experts like we did with Mo and get his opinion because it helped us.” - The Carters.

Thank you for trusting us in creating your perfect kitchen and we hope you enjoy your new kitchen for many years to come.
