What are granite worktops?
Granite worktops are cut from natural stone, quarried in large slabs rather than manufactured. Granite is an igneous rock formed in the earth over millions of years, composed mainly of minerals such as feldspar, quartz and mica. Those minerals give each slab its own colour, veining and character, which is why no two granite worktops look the same.
Slabs are cut and polished at the quarry, then templated, fabricated and installed to fit your kitchen, with cut-outs for sinks and hobs, edge profiles and upstands finished to order. Granite is prized for its exceptional hardness and strong heat resistance, and it has been a premium kitchen worktop choice in the UK for decades.
Granite is slightly porous, and many granites benefit from an impregnating sealer; sealing requirements vary by stone, finish and any factory treatment. Granite colours & natural patterns
Granite occurs naturally in a wide range of colours: greys and blacks, whites and creams, greens, browns and warmer pink and red tones. Pattern varies from fine, even speckling to bold veining and dramatic movement, depending on the minerals in the stone.
Because the look and veining varies by slab, we recommend a gallery visit to choose from full-sized natural stone slabs. Samples show colour and finish well, though natural variation means the full slab is always worth seeing before fabrication.

Do granite worktops need sealing?
Many granite worktops benefit from an impregnating sealer, but not every granite requires the same treatment or resealing frequency. The requirement depends on the specific stone, finish and any factory treatment, and we will advise the appropriate care for your chosen slab. Day to day, warm water and a mild detergent are all the cleaning granite normally needs.
