Lucy Halcomb's Kitchen: A Beautiful Balance of Marble-Inspired Stone and Warm Oak

Lucy Halcomb’s kitchen renovation is a beautiful example of how the right materials can completely transform a space. As part of a larger home renovation, Lucy introduced new cabinetry, a bespoke island and a refreshed living area, creating a home that feels warm, welcoming and full of character. For the kitchen, she had her heart set on the luxurious look of marble, eventually choosing ELORĀ Calacatta Oro engineered stone for its soft, diffused grey veining, polished finish and gentle white background.

Calacatta Oro brings a beautiful sense of brightness to the kitchen, running across the island and worktops and complementing the warm neutral cabinetry. The stone continues up the wall as a full-height splashback, creating an uninterrupted marble-inspired backdrop behind the sink. Its delicate grey veining adds subtle movement without overwhelming the space, while the brass taps, handles and wall lights introduce warmth and character. The polished finish catches the natural light beautifully, enhancing the softness of the stone’s marble-inspired pattern.

One of the most distinctive features of this project is the 50mm mitred floating stone shelf, which sits above the splashback. Supported by wall-mounted brackets, the shelf has been carefully fabricated so that the Calacatta Oro pattern continues across the top, front edge and underside. On either side, bespoke curved details crafted from the same engineered stone in a 10mm thickness frame the splashback and shelf, softening the transition between the stone and surrounding cabinetry. It’s a small detail with a remarkable impact, bringing the entire design together. The stone also extends into the cabinetry’s concealed appliance area, ensuring the same beautiful finish carries through even the more functional corners of the kitchen.

At the heart of the room sits Lucy’s solid oak island, which she stained herself to achieve the perfect rich, warm finish. The natural wood grain provides a beautiful contrast against the soft white Calacatta Oro worktop, while the upholstered bar stools add another layer of comfort. The island’s generous surface offers plenty of room for preparing meals, gathering with family or simply enjoying a quiet morning coffee. With natural light pouring through the bifold doors and skylights, the stone’s delicate veining becomes even more beautiful throughout the day.

What makes Lucy’s kitchen so special is how thoughtfully every element comes together. From the warmth of the oak and the charm of the brass finishes to the bespoke stonework that frames the sink area, each detail has its place. Templated, fabricated and installed by Mo’s Stonex, the Calacatta Oro surfaces bring Lucy’s marble-inspired vision to life, creating a kitchen that’s every bit as practical as it is beautiful.
