Executing a Vision in Macchia Vecchia

For Michael and Amy Byrne, the goal was not simply to create a beautiful kitchen. The ambition was to create a space with presence, one that felt architectural, contemporary, and confident in every detail. Achieving that vision required careful coordination between materials, proportions, and craftsmanship.

At the centre of the project sits ELORĀ's Macchia Vecchia, an engineered stone chosen for its dramatic movement and unmistakable character. With bold veining running across a bright surface, the material immediately establishes itself as the focal point of the room. Rather than introducing competing finishes, the surrounding design was intentionally restrained, allowing the stone to take the lead.

The island became one of the defining features of the project. Fabricated and installed by the Mo's StoneX team, it was designed on a scale that allows the full beauty of the stone to be appreciated. The waterfall ends extend the veining from the horizontal surface down to the floor, creating a seamless continuation that enhances the visual impact of the material.

The same level of attention was carried through to the full-height splashback. Here, Macchia Vecchia forms a continuous visual plane behind the cooking area, strengthening the linear design of the kitchen while showcasing the natural movement within the stone. Large surfaces such as these leave little room for error, making precise fabrication and installation essential to the final result.

One of the strengths of the design lies in the relationship between the stone and the cabinetry. The grey cabinetry provides a calm, structured backdrop that allows the movement of the Macchia Vecchia to remain the centre of attention. Rather than competing for focus, the two elements work together to create a kitchen that feels balanced and purposeful.

Projects like this demonstrate how much of a kitchen's success depends on execution. Every line, edge, and junction contributes to the overall experience of the space. The Byrne project is ultimately a celebration of scale, material, and craftsmanship. Through thoughtful design and expert execution, Mo's StoneX transformed a striking slab of Macchia Vecchia into the defining feature of a kitchen that feels sophisticated, architectural, and distinctly individual.
