A Kitchen Full of Character: Maj’s Journey with SINTERRA Crema

For content creator and home interiors enthusiast Maj, known to her followers as @mywanderinghome, a kitchen is so much more than a place to cook. It's where recipes come to life, DIY projects unfold and friends and family gather around good food. Known for her love of colourful interiors, playful styling and hands-on home transformations, Maj has created a kitchen that reflects her personality in every corner. And at the heart of it all is SINTERRA Crema sintered stone, a warm, marble-inspired surface that became the starting point for her entire kitchen design.

A Kitchen Transformation Worth Waiting For

“When I first saw this worktop in the showroom, I basically designed my entire kitchen around it,” Maj recalls. With its soft beige background and delicate, flowing veining, Crema offered exactly what she was looking for: a surface with enough character to be beautiful on its own, yet subtle enough to work alongside her ever-growing collection of colourful home accessories. As Maj puts it, “It’s beige with this light veining on it and goes with almost everything.” From vintage-inspired crockery and decorative plates to patterned ceramics, wooden shelving and little treasures collected over time, Maj’s kitchen is full of things she loves. Rather than competing with these details, the gentle tones of Crema provide a warm backdrop that allows her eclectic style to shine.

Our journey with Maj began in Newcastle, where the Mo’s Stonex team travelled to template her kitchen. The stone was then fabricated at our production facility in High Wycombe, before the team returned to Newcastle for installation. The project included SINTERRA Crema worktops, full-height splashbacks and a matching stone shelf supported by decorative brackets, bringing the same warm, softly veined finish across the kitchen. The full-height splashback creates a continuous surface behind the sink and cooking areas, while the matching shelf adds another layer of texture and provides a lovely place for Maj to display her favourite pieces.

But while our installation was complete, Maj’s kitchen transformation was far from finished. As someone who loves getting stuck into a DIY project, she had plenty of work planned, much of which she was tackling herself. From plastering and painting the walls to putting up wallpaper and drilling holes for the shelf brackets, there was still a long list of jobs to complete. It would be another year before the kitchen was finally ready for its full reveal.

When we returned to visit Maj a year after installing her worktops, the transformation was wonderful to see. What had once been a work in progress was now a warm, welcoming kitchen filled with personality. Soft neutral cabinetry, brass details, open wooden shelving and carefully arranged collections of colourful ceramics give the room its charming, lived-in feel. The Crema surfaces bring everything together, their gentle beige tones complementing the warmer colours throughout the space without overpowering the decorative details.

Beautiful Worktops, Made for Real Life

Of course, a kitchen that has been through a year of DIY projects has seen its fair share of activity. Between plastering, painting, drilling and decorating, Maj’s worktops had been put through much more than the usual demands of everyday cooking. Yet when we visited, the surfaces still looked as beautiful as the day they were installed, with no visible scratches or marks from all the work that had taken place around them.

For Maj, this durability has made an enormous difference to how she uses her kitchen.

“I cook a lot, I host a lot, and one thing I really love about these worktops is how durable they are,”

Having previously lived with wooden worktops, Maj was familiar with the constant worry of spills, stains and maintenance. With SINTERRA Crema, that concern has become a thing of the past.

“I used to have wooden worktops but was constantly stressing about staining them, upkeeping them. And with these ones, I could drop an entire tub of turmeric on this worktop, leave it for a week, come back and wipe it, and you won’t be able to tell.”

It’s a particularly fitting choice for someone whose kitchen is regularly used for cooking, experimenting with recipes and entertaining. As a sintered stone, SINTERRA Crema is non-porous and highly resistant to stains, scratches and heat, making it a practical choice for a busy home. Its durability allows Maj to enjoy her kitchen without constantly worrying about protecting the surfaces.

A Home That’s Always Evolving

One of the loveliest things about visiting Maj was hearing how much of the transformation she had completed herself. Her kitchen is a reflection not just of her personal style, but of the time, effort and creativity she has poured into making her house a home. Every painted wall, carefully placed shelf and decorative detail tells a little part of that story.

And for anyone feeling inspired to try their hand at DIY, Maj has a simple piece of advice:

“I would say start off small, and your confidence will just naturally grow from there.”

It’s a philosophy that comes through beautifully in her home. What began with choosing the right worktop has grown into a kitchen full of warmth, colour and personal touches, designed to be enjoyed rather than simply admired.

Templated, fabricated and installed by Mo’s Stonex, the SINTERRA Crema worktops, splashbacks and matching shelf have been part of Maj’s journey from the early stages of renovation to the final reveal. A year of DIY projects, countless meals and plenty of creativity later, the kitchen is finally complete. And we couldn’t be happier to see how beautifully it has all come together.
